Stabbing Results in Murder Conviction

Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Major Crimes Unit obtained a conviction against a man who stabbed his friend, severing his spinal column. Michael Lewis Freeman, 42, was convicted of Second Degree Murder. Judge Steve Sword set the case for sentencing on June 8.

In a four-day trial, Assistant District Attorneys Leslie Nassios and Hector Sanchez explained to the jury that on January 21, 2014, Freeman and the victim were watching sports at the victim’s residence at 2360 Linden Avenue. That evening, the two got into an altercation during which Freeman stabbed the victim once from behind, severing his spinal column and rendering him paralyzed. Once the victim was on the floor, Freeman stabbed the victim four more times in the throat.

At sentencing, Freeman is facing between fifteen and twenty-five years in prison without the possibility of parole.
