Rollin 20s Crips Sentenced to Life

Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Career Gang Unit obtained convictions against two Rollin 20s Crips gang members whose plot to commit random robberies ended in a homicide. Nolandus Dewayne Sims, 22, and Andre Lavel Terry, 18, were convicted of two counts of First Degree Felony Murder, Second Degree Murder, Carjacking, Aggravated Robbery, Especially Aggravated Kidnapping, Attempted Especially Aggravated Robbery, and Employing a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony.

In a four-day trial before Judge Bob McGee, Assistant District Attorneys TaKisha Fitzgerald and Phil Morton explained to the jury that on November 30, 2013, Sims and Terry came to Knoxville from Chattanooga as part of the Rollin 20s Crips criminal street gang in order to commit random robberies. During the course of this plot, Sims and Terry came across the victim, Jack Hutchins, as he was carrying food into his Woodbine Avenue home. The victim was struck with multiple rounds from a .380 caliber handgun.

“This senseless crime was committed as part of a gang’s plan to commit random robberies,” said DA Allen.”The lengthy sentences imposed in this case should serve as a warning to those who victimize members of our community in the name of a gang. Also, this trial would not have been possible without the brave citizens who came forward to testify.”

Both Defendants were sentenced to life in prison on the Felony Murder counts, meaning they must serve fifty-one years in prison before they are eligible to meet with the parole board. Judge McGee set the case for sentencing on May 4 to determine the sentences on the remaining counts.
