Repeat Impaired Driver Sentenced to Thirteen Years
Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s DUI Unit obtained a thirteen-year sentence against an impaired driver with sixteen DUI convictions. Hobart William Reagan, 58, was convicted of Driving Under the Influence, Sixth or Subsequent Offense. After a sentencing hearing, Judge Kyle Hixson ordered Reagan to serve thirteen years in prison.
In a June plea colloquy, Assistant District Attorney Jordan Murray explained to the Court that just before noon on October 4, 2018, Reagan was asleep behind the wheel of his running vehicle in a lane of traffic at the intersection of Middlebrook Pike and Liberty Street. Knoxville Police Department officers responded to the scene and found that Reagan was lethargic with slurred speech. Officers attempted to administer field sobriety tests, but Reagan was unable to stand without assistance. Officers located two needles in Reagan’s pocket. Additionally, a bag was found in Reagan’s pants that contained cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, oxycodone, and clonazolam. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation examined Reagan’s blood and determined he had a combination of methamphetamine and cocaine in his system.
“DUI enforcement saves lives,” said DA Charme Allen.”Impaired driving is incredibly dangerous, and the sentence imposed in this case made the community safer.”
Reagan has a criminal history dating back to 1982 with his first DUI conviction in 1983. At the sentencing hearing, Assistant District Attorney Greg Eshbaugh cited nine felony and thirty-three misdemeanor convictions including convictions for drug trafficking, Bribery of a Public Servant, felony DUI, and Habitual Motor Vehicle Offender.
