Repeat Drug Dealer Convicted in Overdose Death
Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Felony Drug Unit obtained a twenty-four-year sentence against a repeat drug dealer who sold a deadly fentanyl analogue to a man that overdosed. Anthony Lynn Jordan, 40, was convicted of Possession with Intent to Sell Cocaine, Attempted Bribery, Reckless Homicide, and Possession with Intent to Sell a Controlled Substance Analogue.
In a plea colloquy before Judge Bob McGee, Assistant District Attorney Sean McDermott explained to the court that on September 14, 2014, Knoxville Police Department Officer Derrick White stopped Jordan at 550 McConnell Street for speeding and running a stop sign. Jordan was found to be in possession of fifteen grams of cocaine. Jordan was on federal supervised release for two previous cocaine distribution cases and tried to pay Ofc. White and Ofc. Adam Broome to let him go, netting Jordan another charge for Attempted Bribery. While on bond for the cocaine charge, Jordan sold acryl fentanyl, a dangerous fentanyl analogue, to a man who overdosed after ingesting the drug. KPD Inv. John Holmes and other members of the Drug Related Death Task Force were able to uncover text messages showing that Jordan sold drugs to the victim. Text messages also revealed that Jordan knew how dangerous his product was. In one text exchange, Jordan stated,”3people OD off dat yesterday. Das fentnol I got.” sic Inv. Holmes confronted Jordan with this information, and Jordan admitted selling drugs to the victim. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit also executed a search warrant at Jordan’s home where they found more fentanyl analogue.
“The goal of the overdose task force is to identify and prosecute drug dealers whose only thought is greed and not the wake of devastation caused by the poison they sell,” said DA Charme Allen.”This repeat dealer knew he was selling poison, but he sold it anyway just to make money.”
Jordan has four prior felony convictions for distributing cocaine. Jordan has also been classified as a member of the Gangster Disciples criminal street gang.
