Drunk Driver Convicted at Trial
District Attorney General Charme Allen’s DUI Unit obtained a conviction today for Driving Under the Influence against Rebecca Mary Williams, 39. ADA Joe Welker presented testimony to the jury that on September 22, 2013, Williams was driving down Northshore Drive on a flat tire. When KPD Officer Kevin Varner pulled her over, Williams had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and failed field sobriety tests. She also refused to submit to testing to determine her blood alcohol content. At trial, Williams testified she was nervous at the scene causing her to be unsteady on her feet, but the jury found that she was intoxicated.
Judge Scott Green set the case for a sentencing hearing to determine how much time Williams will serve in jail. Under Tennessee law, first time DUI offenders must serve at least forty-eight hours in jail.
