Child Rapist Convicted of Abusing Ten-Year-Old

Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Child Abuse Unit obtained convictions against a defendant who sexually abused a child and threatened her in order to keep her from disclosing the abuse.  Roger Dean Guin, 55, was convicted of two counts of Rape of a Child, two counts of Rape, Aggravated Sexual Battery, Sexual Battery by an Authority Figure, Incest, and three counts of Assault.  Judge Scott Green set the case for sentencing on December 17 where Guin faces a minimum of twenty-five years in prison without possibility of parole.

In a three-day trial, Assistant District Attorneys Rachel Lambert and Jordan Murray explained to the jury that Guin started sexually abusing the victim when she was ten years old.  Guin told the victim there would be bad consequences if she disclosed the abuse to police.  The abuse continued for five years until Guin moved out of the house.  At that point, the victim disclosed years of abuse.  Knox County Sheriff’s Office Detective Miranda Spangler began investigating the case and coordinated a recorded phone call between Guin and the victim’s mother.  In the phone call, Guin admitted sexually abusing the child.

“Thanks to the bravery of this child, this offender will never again be able to victimize another minor,” said DA Charme Allen.  “We are seeking the maximum sentence to make sure this defendant never leaves prison.”

Rape of a Child is a Class A felony that carries a punishment between twenty-five and forty years in prison without the possibility of parole.  Rape and Aggravated Sexual Battery are Class B felonies carrying a punishment between eight and twelve years.  At sentencing, prosecutors will highlight the threats Guin made to the victim to keep her from disclosing the abuse.  Guin told the victim that if she told anyone about the sexual assaults, he would put her family in body bags, threatening to kill the victim, her mother, and her siblings.
