Carjacking Defendant to Serve Twenty Years

Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Felony Drug Unit obtained a twenty-year sentence against a career criminal who carjacked a man in East Knoxville. Randolph Stevenson, 34, pled guilty to Carjacking, Attempted Especially Aggravated Kidnapping, and Attempted Aggravated Robbery. Under the terms of the agreement, Judge Scott Green sentenced Stevenson to twenty years in prison.

In a plea hearing, Assistant District Attorney Hector Sanchez explained to the Court that on January 15, 2012, the victim was stopped at a red light at the intersection of MLK and Chestnut Street when Stevenson entered the passenger side of the vehicle, pointed a gun at the victim’s head, and said,”You know what this is. Drive.” Stevenson took $200 and a cell phone from the victim and ordered him to drive through East Knoxville to East Fifth Avenue where Stevenson exited and ran on foot. When the victim went to his cellular provider to get a new phone, he started receiving text messages from Stevenson’s girlfriend who had been communicating with Stevenson on the victim’s stolen phone. By communicating with the girlfriend, the victim was able to discover Stevenson’s address and identity, which led to his arrest by Knoxville Police Department Investigator Patricia Tipton.

Stevenson has eight prior felony convictions for violent and property crimes out of multiple jurisdictions.
