Career Offender Crashes Vehicle Leaving Behind Drugs

Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Felony Drug Unit obtained convictions against a career offender who ran from a traffic stop, leaving behind his methamphetamine. Noah Thomas Cox, 35, was convicted of Facilitation of Possession with Intent to Sell Methamphetamine in a Drug Free School Zone, Theft, Evading Arrest, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Driving on a Suspended License. Judge Steve Sword revoked Cox’s bond and set the case for sentencing on March 28.

At trial, Assistant District Attorney Ken Irvine explained to the jury that on July 17, 2016, Knox County Sheriff’s Office Ofc. Donald Ferrell attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Cox near the intersection of Central Avenue Pike and Callahan Drive. As Ofc. Ferrell approached on foot, Cox drove behind a business, through a field, crashed his vehicle, and fled on foot. He left behind approximately three grams of methamphetamine, the stolen vehicle he was driving, and his injured passenger.

Cox has twelve prior felony convictions for Burglary, Theft, Evading Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, and drug dealing offenses out of Sevier County and Knox County. At sentencing, Cox faces up to fifteen years in prison because of his prior convictions.
