Career Offender Convicted after Shooting at Family Member

Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Career Gang Unit obtained convictions against a career criminal who shot at his brother-in-law before a funeral for another family member. Daron Keith Hall, 42, was convicted of Attempted Voluntary Manslaughter, Aggravated Assault, Employing a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Judge Steve Sword set the case for sentencing on October 20 where Hall faces a mandatory minimum sentence of twenty-two years in prison as a Career Offender.

In a two-day trial, Assistant District Attorney Phil Morton explained to the jury that on October 27, 2016, the victim went to the home of a family member off Washington Pike to gather before heading to a funeral for another family member. At the home, Hall told the victim he was not welcome at the funeral and brandished a firearm. Hall fired multiple shots at the victim as he fled down the street. Knoxville Police Department Officer James Williams responded to the”shots fired” call and located the victim. The victim was not struck by the shots, but he collapsed while talking to officers and was taken to Fort Sanders Hospital due to possible cardiac arrest. The KPD Forensic Unit recovered four 9mm shell casings from the home.

“Violent offenders and gang members who brandish and employ firearms in our community can expect to receive lengthy prison sentences for their crimes,” said DA Charme Allen.

Hall has multiple prior felony convictions for Aggravated Robbery, Robbery, and Theft. He has also previously been identified as a member of the Gangster Disciples criminal street gang.
