The District Attorney’s Office announces 2021 dates and application process for its citizens academy

District Attorney Charme P. Allen is offering a seven-week, behind-the scenes experience for people who live and/or work in Knox County.

Held each year in the fall, the District Attorney General’s Citizens Academy provides an overview of the criminal justice system and addresses current trends impacting public safety in the 6th Judicial District. After covering the basics, participants learn what it is like to represent the State of Tennessee in the court of law, through a mock trial. With seasoned prosecutors playing along as witnesses, victims and defense attorneys, the mock trial can take several turns.

A recent graduate shared, “This training was very informative. I am glad to learn that the DA’s office is interested in connecting with the community, especially those in urban areas. Bridging the gaps and building strong relationships are vital and I am glad that Knox County is striving to make it happen.”

The application and additional information can be downloaded from the links listed below. The deadline to apply is Friday, July 30.  Participants must be at least 18 years of age, live or work in Knox County, and must undergo a criminal background check. To maximize the experience, the class size is limited to approximately 25 members.
