District Attorney General Charme P. Allen Graduates from Leadership Knoxville!

District Attorney General Charme Allen has the distinct honor of being a part of “The Best Class Ever” (http://www.leadershipknoxville.com/programs-services/flagship-program/current-class/) Leadership Knoxville (LK) 2017 Graduating Class!  On May 9th of this year, she and her fellow classmates were recognized at the Leadership Knoxville’s 8th Annual Mayors’ Leadership Luncheon which was hosted by Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett and Knoxville City Mayor Madeline Rogero at the Knoxville Convention Center.  Members of General Allen’s Staff joined her at this luncheon, which highlighted the programs and services of Leadership Knoxville, whose motto is “Every Leader – A Servant Leader.”  The featured Keynote Speaker was University of Tennessee Chancellor Beverly Davenport.  Also during the event, Ms. Joan Cronan, former Women’s Athletics Director at the University of Tennessee, was surprised with the Distinguished Alumni Award.

Founded in 1984, Leadership Knoxville’s mission is “we build a stronger Knoxville by developing people and groups, leading to a greater community.”  This mission is accomplished through a 10-month experience of leadership programs, community workshops, and events designed to inspire, challenge, and connect people at all levels of leadership development.  General Allen’s learning experience through Leadership Knoxville began in August 2016 with an orientation at the Knoxville Botanical Gardens & Arboretum.  During its 10-month sessions, her class participated in an Opening Retreat, visited East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, observed research and development activities at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, toured McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base – home of the 134th Air Refueling Wing, visited with members of the Tennessee General Assembly, enjoyed breakfast with Governor Bill Haslam (LK 1992) and First Lady Crissy Haslam (LK 2006), and explored the Knoxville Museum of Art.  General Allen’s class capped off its year with its Team Project – “Smoky Mountain Hoedown” Square Dance to Benefit Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts located in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, which was badly damaged by the wildfires last fall.

General Allen emphasizes that this game-changing experience has helped her both personally and professionally, thereby allowing her to serve Knox County more effectively.  She states, “I am forever changed because of my participation in Leadership Knoxville. The staff and curriculum committee worked tirelessly to provide a phenomenal experience that not only improved my ability to be an effective servant leader but also honed my awareness of numerous community assets as well as issues. One of the absolute best takeaways from Leadership Knoxville is the wonderful bond of friendship I was able to establish with my 53 outstanding classmates. It has truly been an honor to a part of The Best Class Ever!

The Staff at the Office of the District Attorney General extends a huge “Congratulations” to General Allen and her fellow LK 2017 Graduates!  For more information about Leadership Knoxville, please visit www.leadershipknoxville.com.
