Former Corrections Officer Convicted

Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Criminal Court Division obtained convictions against a former corrections officer who assaulted an inmate.  After less than an hour of deliberation, a Knox County jury found Nicholas Jeremiah Breeden, 37, guilty of Official Oppression and Assault.  Judge Bob McGee set the case for sentencing on January 26, 2017.

Drunk Driver Receives Thirty-Two-Year Sentence for Son’s Death

After being convicted by prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s DUI Unit, a drunk driver who killed his son and critically injured his nephew was sentenced to thirty-two years in prison. In a trial last September, Steven Dare Steelman, Jr., 35, was convicted of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Vehicular Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Driving Under the Influence Third Offense, Driving on a Revoked License, and Failure to Provide Evidence of Financial Responsibility.

Detroit Heroin and Pill Dealer Sentenced to Twelve Years without Parole

Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Felony Drug Unit obtained a twelve-year sentence against a man from Detroit who was selling heroin and pills in Knoxville. In a September trial, Frazier Lee Savage, 43, was convicted of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Heroin and Alprazolam in a Drug Free Zone and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Because the offense took place in a Drug Free Zone, the twelve-year sentence must be served without the possibility of parole.

Breadbox Robbery Nets Combined Fifty Years for Two Cousins

Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Career Gang Unit obtained multiple convictions against a pair of cousins who robbed a Breadbox convenience store and two customers. Benny Joe Cooper, 46, and Darrell Alfred Cooper, 55, were each convicted of two counts of Aggravated Robbery, two counts of Aggravated Kidnapping, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Under the terms of the plea agreement, Benny Cooper received a sentence of thirty years in prison without the possibility of parole, and Darrell Cooper received a sentence of twenty years in prison without the possibility of parole.

iPhone Helps Homeowner Catch Burglar in the Act

Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Career Gang Unit obtained a conviction against a burglar caught in the act by a homeowner who used an old iPhone as a security camera. Jason Travis Sewell, 36, was convicted of Aggravated Burglary. Under the terms of the plea agreement, Sewell must serve fifteen years in prison.

Defendant Convicted of Assaults at UT Football Game

Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Criminal Court Division obtained multiple convictions today against a man who struck two people leaving a University of Tennessee football game, requiring one victim to have facial reconstructive surgery. Gordon Shane Johnson, 36, was convicted of Aggravated Assault, Assault, and Evading Arrest.

DUI Career Offender Sentenced to Six Years

Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s DUI Unit obtained a six-year sentence today against a career offender with six prior DUI convictions. Following a two-day trial in June, John Palladin Gibson, 43, was convicted of his seventh offense of Driving Under the Influence. At a sentencing hearing today, Judge Steve Sword sentenced Gibson to serve six years in prison.
