District Attorney General Charme Allen was selected to serve as the Knox County Chair for Do the Write Thing, a program of the National Campaign to Stop the Violence.
Do the Write Thing is a unique national program designed to give middle school students an outlet to communicate in group discussions and through writing how violence impacts their daily lives. In addition to exposing the causes and effects of violence, students are asked to share their ideas on reducing violence in their community.
The program asks students to express in stories, poems, and songs, or in any other written forms, the violence they’ve faced, with an emphasis on exploring these key questions:
- How does violence affect your daily life?
- What are some of the causes of youth violence in your community?
- What can you as an individual do to reduce youth violence in your community?
Two selected ambassadors will receive:
- Essay published and submitted into the Library of Congress
- All-expense paid trip to recognition week & ceremony in Washington, DC
- Opportunity to meet world, national & local leaders
