ADA Del Holley Receives Duncan Award for Senior Advocacy

Veteran prosecutor James “Del” Holley, Jr., is being honored today for his dedication to helping the elderly in the community. Holley is this year’s recipient of the John J. Duncan, Sr., Award for Senior Advocacy. The award is presented by the Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee Office on Aging Senior Citizens Information & Referral Service, and the award honors individuals who go above and beyond to help advocate for the needs of senior citizens.

Holley joined the District Attorney General’s Office in 1994.  During his tenure in the Office, he has served in Criminal Court, General Sessions Court, and Juvenile Court.  While prosecuting cases in those courts, ADA Holley also focused his attention on the growing problem of elder abuse in Knox County.  General Holley aggressively prosecuted elder abuse cases in court, served on committees dealing with senior advocacy, and volunteered his time working with the elderly.

DA Charme Allen praised the work of Holley stating, “I am proud of Del’s hard work and dedication to the victims of elder abuse. His years of advocacy led to the creation of the Elder Abuse Unit in the Office that works with Adult Protective Services to aggressively prosecute cases of neglect, abuse, and financial crimes committed upon vulnerable adults in this community.  General Holley’s example of service and compassion is one we could all follow.”

Upon receiving the award, Holley said, “It is a humbling experience for me to be recognized for my work in the areas of senior advocacy and elder abuse prevention.  I am proud of the role I have been able to play in the tradition and continued efforts of the Knox County District Attorney’s Office to help protect some of the most vulnerable members of our society.”
