AMBER Alert Leads to Murder Conviction
Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Major Crimes Unit obtained convictions against a man who murdered his ex-wife in front of his two-year-old child leading to a nationwide manhunt. Tyler Ward Enix, 38, was convicted of First Degree Murder and Especially Aggravated Robbery. Judge Steve Sword imposed a life sentence on the murder count and set the case for sentencing on November 30 to determine the length of the robbery count.
In a six-day trial, Assistant District Attorneys Kevin Allen and Molly Martin explained to the jury that on October 28, 2015, Tyler Enix went to the home of his ex-wife, Kimberly Enix, and stabbed her forty-seven times in front of their two-year-old child. Tyler Enix then took the child, triggering a nationwide AMBER Alert. A motorist in Morrow County, Ohio, spotted Enix and alerted the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office who arrested Enix and rescued the child. Investigator Jason Booker and other investigators from the Knoxville Police Department gathered additional evidence leading to this conviction.
“This case was the result of the dedication and professionalism of law enforcement officers in multiple states,” said DA Charme Allen.”This case shows the value of the AMBER Alert system, and I want to thank the heroes in Ohio who spotted the vehicle and saved this child.”
The life sentence imposed in this case means Enix must serve fifty-one years in prison before he is eligible for parole. At the sentencing hearing on the robbery count, prosecutors will ask for the maximum sentence of twenty-five years to run consecutive to the life sentence.
