Child Molester to Spend Nineteen Years in Prison

Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Child Abuse Unit obtained multiple convictions against a grandfather who sexually molested a child. Daryl R. Baker, 61, pled guilty to four counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery, five counts of Attempted Rape of a Child, and two counts of Sexual Battery by an Authority Figure. Under the terms of the agreement, Baker must serve nineteen years in prison.

In a plea hearing before Judge Scott Green, Assistant District Attorney Ashley McDermott explained to the Court that on December 21, 2013, Knoxville Police Department Investigator Brandon Shelley received information that Baker had been sexually assaulting a child victim for several years beginning when the victim was nine years old. Baker was confronted about the assaults and admitted molesting the child. This confession was recorded on the video-recording system in an Uber vehicle. Baker also confessed to Inv. Shelley.

“Those that would prey upon the most vulnerable members of society need to be removed from that society,” said DA Allen.”Members of the Child Abuse Unit have the special responsibility and duty to protect children from predators that abuse them.”
