Shooting Leads to Twenty-Five-Year Sentence
Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Major Crimes and Felony Drug Units obtained a conviction against a convicted felon who shot a man during the robbery of a vehicle, nearly killing the victim. Candice Morgan, 30, pled guilty to Attempted Especially Aggravated Robbery. Under the terms of the agreement, Morgan must serve twenty-five years in prison.
In a plea hearing before Judge Bob McGee, Assistant District Attorney Hector Sanchez explained to the Court that on October 2, 2016, at 1928 Callahan Drive, Morgan used a .380 caliber handgun to shoot the victim once and steal his 1999 Ford F-150 truck. As the victim was recovering in the hospital, he was able to identify Morgan as the shooter. Knox County Sheriff’s Office Detective Allen Merritt was able to track Morgan to Cleveland, Ohio, where she was apprehended while in possession of a .380 caliber handgun. Once back in Knoxville, Det. Merritt interviewed Morgan, who admitted that the gun was used in the robbery.
“Repeat, violent offenders should expect to receive lengthy sentences from the prosecutors in this office,” said DA Charme Allen.
Morgan has a prior violent felony conviction involving the use of a firearm from 2008.
