Kidnapper Convicted after Nationwide Manhunt
Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Career Gang Unit obtained a conviction against a felon who kidnapped a twenty-year-old woman at a West Knoxville shopping center. Michael Sean Green, 41, was convicted of Aggravated Kidnapping. After the jury returned their verdict, Judge Steve Sword set the case for sentencing on December 1.
At trial, Assistant District Attorney TaKisha Fitzgerald put proof before the jury that showed that on June 5, 2015, shortly after 10:00 PM, Green parked his SUV next to a vehicle belonging to a twenty-year-old female in the parking lot of Ross Dress for Less on Kingston Pike. When the victim came out of the store and attempted to get in her car, Green attacked her, putting his arm around her neck, and choking her until she passed out. Once the victim lost consciousness, Green tried to place her in the back of his SUV. Other shoppers heard the initial struggle of the victim before she passed out and started yelling at Green. When confronted by these citizens, Green fled the area in his SUV, leaving the victim behind, but not before the victim was able to catch the license plate number on the SUV. The Knoxville Police Department determined that Green was a wanted sex offender from Virginia who had cut off his GPS ankle monitor prior to coming to Knoxville. KPD worked with the United States Marshals Service to track Green to Fort Worth, Texas, where law enforcement spotted him and attempted to arrest him, but Green was able to flee. KPD continued to track Green, and he was ultimately arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“”This dangerous offender needs to be locked away for as long as possible,”” said DA Charme Allen.””Thanks to the dogged determination of law enforcement across the country, this offender will not be able to harm another victim for several decades.””
At sentencing, Green is facing between twelve and twenty years in prison without the possibility of parole. Prosecutors have sought to enhance Green’s punishment because of seven prior felony convictions for offenses including Abduction with Intent to Sexually Molest, Perjury, Arson, soliciting his wife to abduct a child, and solicitation of murdering a jailer and prosecutor in Virginia. The sentence he receives in this case must run consecutive to his twenty-five year sentence in Virginia.
