Heroin Dealer Convicted in Overdose Death
Prosecutors in DA Charme Allen’s Felony Drug Unit obtained convictions today against a man whose heroin dealing resulted in the death of a twenty-four-year-old victim. Paxton Levont Everett, 23, was convicted of Facilitation of Second Degree Murder and Sale of Heroin. Under the terms of the agreement, Everett was sentenced to serve eleven years in prison.
In a plea hearing before Judge Scott Green, Assistant District Attorney Sean McDermott explained to the Court that on January 10, 2016, Knoxville Police Department investigators responded to an overdose death at 2845 Jersey Place. The investigation revealed that on January 9, the victim and his girlfriend met Everett in his apartment at 710 Nature Trail Boulevard where Everett sold the victim one half gram of heroin for $120. The victim ingested some of the heroin while at Everett’s apartment and later consumed more heroin at the Jersey Place residence. It was not until the afternoon of the 10th that roommates realized that the victim had overdosed. An autopsy performed by the Knox County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the cause of death as acute combined drug overdose.
“”Overdose deaths have nearly doubled in the last five years,”” said DA Charme Allen.””The number of overdose deaths, especially those involving heroin and other opiates, will continue to rise unless we do everything we can to combat this growing epidemic.””
