Repeat DUI Offender BAC Twice the Legal Limit

A repeat drunk driver was convicted by a Knox County jury after he crashed his vehicle while driving with a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit. The jury deliberated for forty-five minutes before finding Jonathan Daniel Williamson, 31, guilty-as-charged of Second Offense Driving Under the Influence. ADA Joe Welker of the DUI Unit tried the case before Judge Scott Green.

Welker called witnesses today who testified that Williamson had been driving on Lovell Road on February 10, 2013, when he struck an object, blowing out his left front tire. He then abandoned his vehicle in the oncoming lanes of Lovell Road. KPD Officer Travis Shuler later found Williamson at a nearby McDonald’s after patrons called 911 because Williamson was trying to fight people at the restaurant and a gas station. Williamson would not cooperate with officers conducting field sobriety tests, but a blood draw revealed his blood alcohol content to be .19, more than twice the legal limit of .08.

Judge Green set the case for a sentencing hearing where he will determine if Williamson will serve more than the mandatory forty-five days in jail required under the law.
