Road Rage Leads to Multiple Convictions
A road rage shooting led to multiple convictions tonight as prosecutors with DA Charme Allen’s Major Crimes Unit convicted Rodney Lee Scott, 61, following a three-day trial. Scott was convicted by a jury of Attempted Voluntary Manslaughter, Aggravated Assault, Reckless Aggravated Assault, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Public Intoxication.
Assistant District Attorneys Kevin Allen and Molly Martin presented evidence about an altercation that started when Scott backed his vehicle into two motorcycles then fled the scene. The motorcyclists followed Scott to his house and waited on deputies to arrive to report the accident. While waiting on deputies, Scott exited his house with a pistol in each hand and started firing at the victims. One victim was shot and fell to the ground bleeding. Scott continued to shoot him, standing over the victim and firing two more rounds into his back. Both victims survived and testified at trial.
Judge Scott Green allowed Scott to remain on house arrest and set a sentencing hearing for June 24. At the hearing, prosecutors will argue that Scott deserves to serve an enhanced sentence in the Tennessee Department of Correction.
