TBI’s Most Wanted: Svante Ebinare Hinton
On Tuesday, July 22, 2014, a Knox County jury convicted Svante Ebinare Hinton, 35, of Attempted Second Degree Murder and Employing a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony. Because of the Defendant’s prior convictions, he is facing a minimum of twenty-two years in the Tennessee Department of Corrections. No sentencing date has been set because the Defendant, who was on bond, fled during jury deliberations.
The case arose out of an August 30, 2012, altercation in which Hinton shot a man on Parkview Avenue in East Knoxville striking him in the shoulder. When the victim retreated, Hinton aimed at the victim firing several more shots. Knoxville Police Department Investigator Colin McLeod investigated the case leading to the arrest of Hinton. Assistant District Attorney Kevin Allen of the A/B Felony Unit prosecuted the case that was presided over by Judge Steve Sword.
